What was intended to be a routine listing appointment turned into an act of courage for Chris Reeves.
An agent with RE/MAX Solutions in Gilbert, Arizona, Chris was headed to the Phoenix area for a listing appointment with his twin brother, Nick, when they noticed smoke coming from a neighborhood opposite of where they were headed. The duo quickly realized trouble was afoot.
They saw flames rising from a backyard gazebo of a home, but were unsure how to access the gated community. The duo sprang into action by jumping through backyards to access the home at risk. Nick began spraying the gazebo with a hose and Chris was splashing water from the pool onto the fire.
The flames were shooting up taller than the garage roofline and it could have been a huge disaster.
A neighbor who witnessed the incident
Once firefighters arrived, Chris and Nick had eliminated the fire down to smoldering ash. They then headed off to their listing appointment – albeit soaking wet – with plans of coming back to speak to the homeowner about the incident.
Because of their immediate action, a small dog inside the home was evacuated and saved, too.
Chris feels lucky he took an appointment that day in Phoenix, an area which he normally does not work in, and was able to protect the house itself and the rest of the neighborhood from a fire that could have escalated.
“Not only did I get the opportunity to help a family with the buying and selling process, but I also got to keep another home safe for a different family in Arizona,” says Chris.

A neighbor who witnessed the event expresses gratitude for the Reeves brothers’ commitment to helping others.
“Had it not been for the Reeves twins, the fire would most certainly have spread from the wooden awning structure to both the house there and the one next door. The flames were shooting up taller than the garage roofline and it could have been a huge disaster,” shares the neighbor. “These young men were not familiar with our neighborhood as they work and live in the East Valley and we are located [over an hour] away from them. They didn’t think twice about their personal safety – they saw smoke and reacted!”
“I’ve never seen anything like their bravery and selflessness,” he adds.
