When Brian Reese exited the U.S. military, he returned home facing emotional and physical struggles, lacking resources and generally feeling alone. But after regaining strength and coming to terms with his health and well-being, Reese decided to help others experiencing a similar journey.
In 2013, Reese founded – and is now the CEO of – VA Claims Insider, a company that supports veterans and helps them access veteran-specific benefits. Through his company and his book “You Deserve It: The Definitive Guide to Getting the Veteran Benefits You Deserve,” Reese has been able to help millions of veterans find financial support.
On this week’s episode of the Start With a Win podcast, Reese joins RE/MAX Holdings CEO Adam Contos to share how he’s channeled his entrepreneurship to enhance the lives of others.
“I came home with a myriad of mental and physical issues and just didn’t really feel comfortable. I was really embarrassed,” the former active duty Air Force officer says. “I didn’t want to talk about mental health and didn’t want to talk about physical pain.”
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) affected Reese’s mental and physical health, as well as his relationships with loved ones. An empowering emotional breakthrough is what helped him regain hope.
“Once I actually started being vulnerable and sharing these things, my entire life opened up, my entire life improved, my relationships got better and this massive following happened,” Reese says.
As veterans aligned with his story, Reese felt a calling to help. VA Claims Insider was founded to help veterans – especially those who had been previously turned away, were feeling unworthy, or simply didn’t know where to start – navigate the complicated claims process.
“That vulnerability led to this incredible movement of veterans helping veterans, and it’s been an absolute blessing to continue serving,” he says.
