Becky Morrison is on a mission to spread joy.

Fifteen years ago, the professional happiness coach had an epiphany that her specific lifestyle as a lawyer meant she was sacrificing happiness in the present for the hope of happiness in the future. She’s since written “The Happiness Recipe: A Powerful Guide to Moving What Matters” and helps others discover their authenticity.

On this week’s episode of the Start With a Win podcast, Morrison joins RE/MAX CEO Adam Contos to present solutions for unhappiness and help listeners break out of a rut.

As it turns out, the recipe for happiness is more complex than Morrison originally thought it to be.

“The narrative I was brought up with [was] go to school, get the good grades, get the good job, get the right title, make the money [and] then you will be happy,” Morrison says.

This template proved untrue for herself.

“I really needed to figure out what it was that I was going to do to build a life that would work for me and for my family and for my happiness.”

Burnout, she explains, has become a constant state of being for many people.

“Because we’re always moving so quickly, we are really disconnected from who we are at our core,” she says. “We get disconnected from self in a very real and constant way and we don’t even realize it.”

She identified the top three things that get in the way of beating burnout:

1. An authenticity gap (How clear are your priorities?)
2. The execution (How do you optimize time and resources to be more meaningful?)
3. An emotional energy gap (How can I adjust my mindset to shift to a more ideal way of living?)
