Leadership and management are not synonymous terms. According to RE/MAX CEO Adam Contos, leadership requires a deep dive into one’s own emotions – and an assessment of how well that person is leading themself.
On this week’s episode of the Start With a Win podcast, Adam shares how true leadership originates and identifies roadblocks for those who are seeking a breakthrough to becoming a leader.
It’s no surprise that Adam frequently gets asked for leadership advice. He’s spent his entire career developing leadership skills, managing others and – most importantly – working on himself. The journey has led to him overseeing an international and multifaceted company as well as being a pillar of wisdom and strength for the global network of RE/MAX agents.
“I lead myself first, and that allows me to be the very best leader that I can be for others,” Adam says.
He believes that leadership begins with the self. And until one can control their emotions, through attitudes and actions, they cannot successfully lead others. Attitude, he says, comprises 90% of your ability to inspire and lead.
“Leading is about projecting the image that you want others to mirror,” he says.
