Winter is on its way. And unfortunately, not everyone has access to the essentials they need for the cold days ahead.

Simeon and Dana Prophet, Broker/Owners of RE/MAX Big Bear in Big Bear Lake, California, are aware of this issue within their mountain town community. On November 7th, they hosted their annual jacket giveaway and provided close to 1,800 free new coats to those who needed one.

This marks the 20th straight year they’ve hosted the event, which they call “Coats for the Community.”

Each fall, Simeon spends months purchasing inventory from various companies throughout Los Angeles. This year, his diligence enabled RE/MAX Big Bear to offer new coats ranging from a children’s 2T to an adult’s 4XL.

One of the RE/MAX Big Bear offices became the distribution center, and plenty of RE/MAX agents and their families were onsite helping people find the best fit.

The RE/MAX Big Bear office was filled with nearly 1,800 new coats.

“Being a part of a community means giving back to the community. As real estate professionals, it’s our duty to make a positive impact in the lives of others,” Simeon says. “We look forward to hosting this event every year – it’s a great way to pay it forward.

“It’s all about community, compassion, and making sure no one is left out in the cold.”

In addition to running RE/MAX Big Bear, Simeon and Dana also own and operate RE/MAX Area Experts in Palm Springs, California. Across both brokerages, the pair is always finding creative, timely ways to fill gaps within community care.

Best part: They’re not alone in this mission. Giving back is a cornerstone of RE/MAX culture, and the passion for helping others is shared by the brand’s network of over 140,000 professionals across more than 110 countries and territories. The annual Global RE/MAX Week, a networkwide week of community service each fall, is a great example of this.

After all, positive change on a worldwide scale starts with the kindhearted gestures of those who care deeply for the places where they live and work.
