Since 2015, Jay Pitts has been the broker/owner of RE/MAX Premier Properties in Kentucky. Born and raised in a family full of real estate professionals, it’s no surprise he ended up in the industry himself.
Pitts’ experience – having sold over 2,000 houses in his hometown of Louisville – means he has tried-and-true advice for fellow real estate professionals growing their businesses.
On this week’s episode of the Start With a Win podcast, Pitts joins RE/MAX CEO Adam Contos to share how real estate agents – particularly newer ones – can overcome challenges and find success.
Pitt says he wanted to be an entrepreneur rather than an employee. “I was always taught that it’s better to rely on yourself for your own income,” he says.
Having spent the first portion of his career in mortgage, Pitts has seen all sides of the real estate industry. And the drive and skills he learned from the mortgage business helped him develop the edge he needed to sell homes.
As a leader and mentor, Pitts shares specific advice for new real estate agents breaking into the industry. The most foolproof action, he says, is to track and measure performance and goals.
“If what you did doesn’t work, well, try something different,” Pitts advises, reflecting on his own experience.
“Identify where you need to go – that niche market you need to be in – and then [take] it all the way back to the basics and [start] from zero with nothing, with all the humility. You have to be able to be willing to be told ‘no.'”
He believes social media is an essential tool for turning a contact into a customer. Filming video and recording podcast episodes are two ways to help build a brand and break into a niche market.
Tune into this week’s episode of Start With a Win to hear about Pitts’ real estate podcast “Resource” and what he has to say about the benefits of a business coach.
