With over 23 years in franchising, Cliff Hudson knows the ins and outs of the business. Hudson spent the bulk of his career as the CEO of Sonic Corp., the parent company to Sonic drive-in restaurant franchises.

Hudson, however, also knows the importance of being an expert in multiple fields, staying educated and always being set for opportunities ahead.

On this week’s episode of the Start With a Win podcast, Hudson joins RE/MAX CEO Adam Contos to share how the varying experiences he had along his career path best prepared him for success.

Hudson started off his career in his 20s as an attorney. But he always believed in the jack-of-all-trades mindset: being naturally curious. Having a broad understanding of the world as well as an ability to analyze critically, he says, prepares one for any challenge or task they face.

“The mindset that’s very helpful in broadening a person’s perspective is to pursue the natural curiosity you have about any number of things in life. And when something strikes you as being interesting, the fact that you don’t have expertise in it – or the fact that it’s not your immediate area of responsibility if you’re within an organization – doesn’t mean you shouldn’t pursue it,” Hudson advises.

“And particularly, if it is something that clicks for you … then pursue it. It’s not going to make you a poorer employee and it’s not going to make you a less-interesting person.”

Having passions, interests and various skillsets prepares anyone – including real estate agents – for connecting with others and finding niche communities to build relationships.

Tune into this week’s episode to learn more from Hudson about how curiosity leads to adaptability in one’s professional life.
