“If I don’t, who will?”
That’s what Vernice Armour said to her father – a Marine Veteran – when he questioned her decision to join the forces, knowing the difficulties he experienced himself while serving. Armour, a former police officer, went on to become the first African American female combat pilot and served a total of 14 years, completing two tours of duty in Iraq.
On this week’s episode of the Start With a Win podcast, Armour joins RE/MAX Holdings Co-CEO Adam Contos to share how her action-oriented mindset has led her to success – and helps her help others.
“The thing that got me here the most was just keeping my eye on what I really wanted,” says Armour.
She has been goal driven since a young age and seeks to exceed goals – and the expectations of others – in every facet of her career.
One of Armour’s motivational mantras is “complacency kills,” explaining that it’s difficult to live an imaginative life when being complacent, doubting oneself and avoiding risks. She is passionate about the fact that mindset is at the core of success – but that success isn’t an endeavor that happens overnight. Armour suggests mentorship and coaching focused on mindset optimization.
“There’s only two ways to succeed. Period. End of story… The first time or again,” she quips.
Tune in to this week’s episode of the Start With a Win podcast to hear Armour’s five best tips for achieving success and never losing momentum along one’s career journey.
