“What is stopping you from what you’re trying to achieve?” That’s what high-performance coach turned motivational speaker and author Dana Cavalea asks the professional athletes he trains.

Cavalea is the former Director of Strength & Conditioning and Performance for the New York Yankees. His guidance helped lead the team to the World Championship in 2009. However, before coaching for his favorite team, Cavalea began his career by handing out water and towels to the Yankees.

On this week’s episode of Start With a Win, Cavalea joins RE/MAX CEO Adam Contos to share tactics for how he coaches high-performing athletes and helps them become the best they can be on the field and in their daily lives.

The tagline for Cavalea’s book Habits of a Champion is “nobody becomes a champion by accident.”

His goal for helping others as a coach is to unpack the misconception that all champions are simply born with greater skills than others. Creating daily habits, Cavalea believes, is key in developing a skillset, building toward a greater goal and maintaining a calm mindset along the road to success. Planning a schedule – and sticking to it – is a practical way to ensure these habits are maintained each day.

“Own your schedule, own your life. Own your schedule, own your results.”

Dana Cavalea

Tune into this week’s episode to learn why Cavalea focuses on what he calls IPAs (income-producing activities) rather than EDAs (energy-draining activities) – and how he believes everyone can work less to achieve more.
