When it comes to providing top-tier customer service to clients, Jay Baer knows how to help companies deliver.

Baer, the founder of consulting company Convince & Convert and host of the Social Pros podcast, has worked with over 700 businesses – 36 of which were Fortune 500 companies – on their social media and marketing strategies to foster an environment that brings customers coming back for more.

On this week’s episode of the Start With a Win podcast, the marketing expert joins RE/MAX CEO Adam Contos to share his approach to improving the customer experience, as well as the marketing tactics he’s learned from over 27 years in the business.

Baer says that in this climate, every business has to act like a startup regardless of how long they’ve been around. COVID-19 has fundamentally reworked the thought processes behind why people buy products, and who specifically they buy from – thus, client relationships are being rewired.

“Consumers in all sectors of the economy are willing to make different buying decisions now in a way that would have been unprecedented [and] unthinkable, just a few years ago,” Baer explains.

A business’ ultimate goal should be to create the most coveted customer experience. According to Baer, there are only three things in all businesses that customers care about: being quick, being clear and being kind.

Accordingly, Baer asks: How can you be 15% faster, 15% more concise and 15% more empathetic in the next 90 days of conducting business?

“If you exceed customer expectations, you’ll see it,” he says.

Baer shares that 70% of consumers believe that online reviews are more important right now than they ever have been before. So in times of uncertainty, the customer experience is evolving but remains top priority.
