The 2023 Global RE/MAX Week will soon be underway! The third annual event – happening October 1-7 – is an opportunity for RE/MAX affiliates around the world to give back to the communities in which they live and work.

From helping fight hunger on a local level to volunteering for a variety of important causes, members of the RE/MAX network typically get creative in finding impactful ways to make a difference in the lives of others each year. Plus, the creativity doesn’t end there – many RE/MAX affiliates find unique ways to benefit their communities all year-round.

RE/MAX agents, teams and offices can take inspiration from these 10 ideas for supporting their communities during the 2023 Global RE/MAX Week.

1. Host a food drive

According to the World Health Organization, 735 million people around the globe are currently facing hunger. Host a food drive and gather food items, especially packaged and canned goods, that can be of use at a local food pantry or food bank.

Don’t know where to donate? Those based in the U.S. can consider supporting the Motto Mortgage Mission Against Hunger, founded in 2018 as a way for the Motto Mortgage network to minimize food waste and give back to local communities. Drop any food items at a local Motto Mortgage office and they’ll deliver the goods to a local food bank. In 2022 alone, the Motto Mission Against Hunger provided over 43,000 meals to local families across the U.S.

2. Volunteer at a food bank

Another effective way to help combat the widespread issue of hunger is by volunteering at local food banks. While volunteering, the food bank may need assistance sorting food items, packing meals, breaking down boxes, loading trucks, and more.

3. Help clean up community spaces

Local parks, hiking trails, paths, and beaches are cherished ways for members of the community to get outdoors. Consider grabbing gloves, trash pickers, and trash bags, and helping clean up popular areas of outdoor recreation. Or, connect with nearby park, trail and recreation offices for upcoming volunteer opportunities.

4. Collect supplies for local animal shelters

With so many furry friends needing help, animal shelters are constantly welcoming bags of unopened pet food, blankets, toys, cleaning supplies, and more. Contact a local animal shelter to see what supplies they are in need of and collect those items – or host a community-wide drive to do so.

5. Harness any niche skills to help others

Have a unique skill? Find a creative way to use it to help others! For example, during the 2022 Global RE/MAX Week, an agent with RE/MAX Youtopia in Hokkaido, Japan, hosted a yoga class specifically for elderly members of her community to stay active.

6. Gather supplies for people in need

Many families aren’t able to afford the necessary supplies children need to thrive at school, which may include pencils, notebooks, backpacks, lunch boxes, shoes that fit, and more. Consider hosting a school supplies drive and collecting items that could benefit local classrooms.

Or, gather items that can be donated to a local shelter for people experiencing homelessness. With winter weather on its way in many climates, consider hosting a coat drive to collect warm jackets and coats.

7. Help build houses

In some locations, programs exist to help build homes and dwellings for people in need. For example, the nonprofit organization Habitat for Humanity offers opportunities for volunteers to help build or repair homes around the world.

8. Participate in a blood drive

For those who are physically able to, donating blood through a blood drive is an effective way to make an impact on the life of someone in need.

According to the American Red Cross, someone in the U.S. needs blood and/or platelets every two seconds, but blood and platelets cannot be manufactured – they can only come from volunteer donors. The source also cites that one donation can help save more than one person’s life. It’s important to note that donations of blood are in demand worldwide.

9. Provide aid for a specific community need

Each community is going to have different needs for service or relief efforts. This can be especially true if an area has recently impacted by natural disaster like hurricanes or fires, like the devastating Maui wildfires. Look into opportunities that may be of extra importance to a specific area.

10. Support Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals

RE/MAX agents in the U.S. and Canada can get involved with a myriad of opportunities available with Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) Hospitals during Global RE/MAX Week this year. RE/MAX affiliates can get in touch with their local CMN Hospital affiliate to find out ways they can give back to children in need, which could include hosting a fundraiser or toy drive, helping make blankets for children’s hospital patients, and more.

Many RE/MAX affiliates already support CMN Hospitals year-round through the RE/MAX Miracle Home and Miracle Property Program, which enables agents to donate to their local affiliate hospital with each closed transaction. Since 1992, RE/MAX affiliates have donated nearly $200 million to Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, which raises funds for 170 children’s hospitals that support the health of 10 million kids each year across the U.S. and Canada.

This October, RE/MAX affiliates taking part in Global RE/MAX Week can use the hashtag #GlobalREMAXWeek to share their impactful efforts and activities on social media.
