In late summer, RE/MAX Broker/Owners will flock to the Bat City for the annual RE/MAX Broker Owner Conference (BOC), August 8-10 at the JW Marriott Austin in Austin, Texas.

The in-person conference – a three-day event filled with education, networking, growth opportunities and fun – helps brokers take their business to a new level. For any Broker/Owners able to make time to take a break and explore the capital city of Texas, read on.

2021 RE/MAX BOC

Austin is known as an important administrative, educational and cultural center of the Lone Star State – and it’s fresh, vibrant, and maybe a little out-of-the-box too (“Keep Austin weird,” right?).

Whether by boot, bike, boat or balloon, here are a few suggestions for exploring Austin outside of the BOC.

By Boot

Congress Avenue Bridge (.2 miles from BOC) is the primary home to the largest urban bat colony. It’s truly a remarkable site to see when up to 1.5 million Mexican free-tailed bats take flight each evening at dusk.

University of Texas at Austin (1.8 miles from BOC) Who knew a college campus can also double as an art museum? The Jack S. Blanton Museum of Art has a permanent collection of 17,000 pieces of European, American and Latin American art.

Umlauf Sculpture Garden & Museum (2 miles from BOC) Just blocks from the heart of an urban capital city the UMLAUF Sculpture Garden + Museum is idyllically Austin, exhibiting the work of American sculptor Charles Umlauf and other performing and visual artists in a garden setting of magnificent plants native to Texas. Since its inception more than 30 years ago, UMLAUF has found and encouraged the understanding and appreciation of the intersection of nature, sculpture, and the arts.

Museum of the Weird (.5 miles from BOC) If art isn’t your thing, but shrunken heads, lizards, mummies, bugs, Fiji Mermaids and suits of armor are more your speed, don’t miss the Museum of the Weird. The museum also explores paranormal subject matter, local spooky haunts, and the legendary Texas Bigfoot.

By Boat

Lone Star Riverboat Cruises – The Colorado River, one of the most prominent natural features of Austin, flows through the heart of the city and forms Lake Austin and Lady Bird Lake. Jump aboard The Lone Star, The Little Star, The Southern Star or The Northern Star to experience Austin’s outdoor beauty during a sunset, bat or skyline cruise.

By Bike

Mellow Johnny’s Bike Shop – Road, mountain, gravel or city bikes…Mellow Johnny’s has it all, including all the accessories (helmets, pedals, locks and lights) for staying safe while exploring the city.

By Balloon

Austin Aeronauts Hot Air Balloons – For thrill seekers looking for an entirely different perspective of the city, a bird’s-eye excursion just may be your bag. Austin Aeronauts offers a variety of scenic ways to view the city – although the balloons will be lacking the famous red-over-white-over-blue branding RE/MAX entrepreneurs are known to sport (and fly in!).
