When it comes to business, it’s critical to find likeminded partners who share the same goals and determination. Some real estate professionals find that their most compatible business partner is a part of their own family tree.
In honor of Mother’s Day, meet two mother-daughter pairs with RE/MAX Austin Skyline in Austin, Texas who are making waves in real estate – especially the local luxury market through The RE/MAX Collection.
Meet Jennifer & Alex Puryear

Jennifer began her real estate career 33 years ago. Her daughter Alex was exposed to the ins and outs of the industry from a young age, accompanying her mom to open houses and shadowing her during school vacations. Alex quips she’s been helping with tasks like stamping envelopes for as long as she can remember.
Following college, Alex jumpstarted a career in luxury wedding planning – and during the COVID-19 pandemic, she decided to switch things up and follow in her mom’s footsteps.
“Transitioning from weddings to housing has been special because I’m helping people in yet another important milestone in their lives,” Alex says.
Close-knit to begin with, the mother daughter pair instantly knew they’d be compatible business partners.
“We do everything together – to the point where we’re even starting to accidentally show up in matching outfits,” Jennifer laughs, noting the duo live next door to each other, too.
Though similar in many ways, they are grateful for their opposite traits, sharing how complementary qualities – like Alex being a morning person and Jennifer being a night owl – allow them to best optimize time.
“We’ve been able to balance each other’s different strengths, and I think that has really amped the business,” Alex explains.
Jennifer passes down all of the wisdom she’s collected to her daughter.
“It’s exciting getting to teach [Alex] everything I’ve learned and expand her network by introducing her to all of the people I’ve met along the way,” Jennifer says. “And because of Alex, I’m also doing things outside of my comfort zone, too, like attending events and implementing new marketing tactics.”
She notes how the strength of their partnership has created better work/life balance for both of them – which is especially helpful as they meet the demand in Austin’s bustling luxury market.
“Together, we specialize in luxury housing and we help people with all of their needs, from upsizing to downsizing,” Jennifer says. “Recently, we’ve seen a little bit of correction in the market, but real estate in Austin remains so hot, and people are still moving here in a frenzy.”
Jennifer and Alex have learned a lot from each other.
“From [Alex], I’ve gained new excitement for the profession – and I say ‘yes’ way more often,” Jennifer shares.
Alex adds, “From [Jennifer], I’ve learned the importance of working for myself – and that means serving clients and making an impact not just for a company, but for my own business. She has taught me so much, and I continue to learn from her every day.”
Meet Heather Brown & Brittany Edmison

Real estate runs deep in the Brown family. Heather Brown is a real estate agent of nearly two decades and her husband has been working in mortgage even longer. It was a natural calling, then, when their daughter Brittany Edmison entered the industry, too.
“I was a freshman in college when my mom got her real estate license and I was so proud of how hard she worked to launch her career. I remember going to her open houses, watching how she prepared for listing appointments, and admiring how she could stage a house,” Brittany recalls. “I have always looked up to her. When I was starting a new career, it was her work ethic that inspired me to dive into real estate.”
Of course, 2020 was a busy year for buying and selling homes. For Brittany, it was the perfect time to depart her prior profession and partner with her mom.
“2020 saw a big shift in the market, and to keep up with demand [Heather] really needed an assistant. It worked out beautifully for us that I was ready for a career change and she was ready for a trustworthy partner,” Brittany shares.
Now, they’re able to help even more clients than they thought possible.
“We help many luxury clients. But that being said, we are every bit as happy to help a first-time homebuyer or a lower price point investor as we are a multimillion-dollar home seller,” Heather says.
Brittany adds, “My mom and I are constantly visiting each other’s houses – so as a family real estate business, home is really important to us. Our passion is to help our clients find their own home to share with their loved ones and make memories in.”
Customers, friends and family agree Heather and Brittany bring out the best in one another and make for a dynamic duo.
“We have such similar mannerisms,” Brittany shares. “Everyone always tells how much we remind them of each other. But being so compatible also means we’ve found a great rhythm for work and are capable of accomplishing more together.”
She continues, “My strengths are with marketing, social media, and coming up with new ideas to work with younger generation clients. And then Heather is amazing at negotiating, is very organized, and is so knowledgeable with things like the complex homebuilding process. Even though we have different strengths, we’re always learning from one another.”
Heather agrees.
“This mother-daughter partnership is on a whole different level. Brittany usually knows what I’m going to say before I even say it,” she beams. “Getting to work with her every day just makes me happy.”
