With 2025 underway, many real estate consumers are putting plans into motion to achieve their New Year’s resolution: buying or selling a home. The latest RE/MAX National Housing Report revealed that as of December, the median home sales price across the 52 U.S metro areas surveyed was $427,000 – $25,000 more than a year prior.
Home sales were up, too. December sales were 4.4% higher than November 2024 – and 13.3% higher than December 2023, making December 2024 the eighth month of the year to see annual sales gains. And the total number of homes for sale nationwide saw a 22% jump from last year.
“Overall, 2024 showed some modest improvements in housing inventory,” said Erik Carlson, CEO of RE/MAX Holdings. “Affordability remains a challenge for many buyers, but demand persists as people continue to see the value of homeownership. Buyers should stay informed and act when the time is right for them.”
