How can commercial real estate (CRE) brokers generate more business? For many, it’s through building a dependable referral pipeline.
“Many successful agents find referrals to be a significant part of their deal sourcing, and referrals can also be an alternative and streamlined path to gaining business compared to traditional marketing,” says Doug Jennings, managing broker of RE/MAX Commercial Alliance in Arvada, Colorado.
At the 2023 RE/MAX Global Commercial Symposium, Jennings – who boasts over two decades of experience in the industry – will take to the stage to share his best strategies for securing referrals with attendees.
The cornerstone event for RE/MAX Commercial will take place April 24-26 at the Renaissance Chicago Downtown Hotel, and will focus on the top ways in which brokers can succeed in today’s commercial real estate market. A key place for networking, the event will feature a packed itinerary including a Welcome Reception at the famous Willis Tower Skydeck – on the 99th floor of the third-tallest building in the Western Hemisphere – perfect for connecting with fellow passionate industry professionals.

According to Jennings, trusted referral partnerships are an underutilized component of finding success in the commercial business sector. His Tuesday session “Referral Success” will teach attendees how to structure a referral pipeline and provide them the tools – including a helpful template – they can implement into business right away.
“The goal of this session is to establish more referrals through planned and international practices,” Jennings says. “When a successful producing agent establishes a path of referrals, it removes a lot of the activity it takes to find another transaction because they already have that resource in their book of business.”
Being a part of a global network is the key foundation for Jennings in building his own business through referrals. But these connections don’t just come from commercial professionals – they come from having access to residential agents, too.
“With RE/MAX, CRE professionals have a network of residential agents that act as a front line for sourcing [deals],” he shares. “For example, a business owner is selling their house and now may like to relocate their office, too. Or, an investor may want to convert houses into commercial properties through a 1031 exchange. These are great opportunities to tap into the already established relationships that a residential agent has and leverage the expertise of a commercial professional in our network.”
In addition to referrals, the event will also focus on leasing, marketing, securing new business, expanding into land deals, and more.
