Nominated this year, Sekou Andrews is the first poet in over a decade to be considered for “Best Spoken Word Album” at the annual Grammy Awards. His artistic and cutting-edge speaking style has mesmerized audiences around the world and, ever an innovator, he coined a new category of public speaking called “Poetic Voice.”

In another major appearance this winter, Andrews is set to bring his engaging, poetic style to the main stage at the RE/MAX R4 Convention, which takes place Feb. 24-27 at the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.

“We are excited for Sekou and wish him the best of luck with his well-deserved nomination,” says Pam Harris, RE/MAX Senior Vice President of Customer Experience. “When selecting featured speakers for our annual R4 Convention, we always seek cutting-edge motivational talent like Sekou. His presentation is sure to be an unforgettable experience.”

Andrew’s album, “Sekou Andrews and the String Theory,” is a poetic reminder of how music unites humanity. The last contemporary poet nominated for “Best Spoken Word Album” was Maya Angelou in 2007. This year, he is among great company at the Grammys, as fellow category nominees include Michelle Obama and members of the Beastie Boys.

“Receiving this recognition is beyond exciting and an incredible honor. I’ve dedicated my career to helping to pioneer a commercially viable industry for the art form I love. I hope having spoken word poetry back on the Grammy map will open doors for future poets to be recognized,” said Andrews on Radiofacts.com.

Andrews is part of an amazing lineup of speakers appearing at R4, including Jia Jiang and Les Brown. See a full list of speakers here.
