Today, Bruce Johnson is in Baton Rouge, La. Nine days ago, he was in Toronto, Ontario. Five weeks from now, he’ll be in San Jose, Costa Rica. During his travels, he’ll traverse nearly 5,500 miles by motorcycle, cross seven country borders and stop at countless RE/MAX offices – all to raise $25,000 for Children’s Miracle Network and SickKids Hospital in Toronto.

Deemed Motorcycle for Miracles, it’s a journey and a cause close to Johnson’s heart. The Sales Associate with RE/MAX of Wasaga Beach in Wasaga Beach, Ontario, knows all too well the importance of the work Children’s Miracle Network does for its young patients. In 1998, Johnson and his wife Mary welcomed a baby girl, Alyssa Rae, into the world. Twenty days later, at SickKids, Alyssa succumbed to complications relating to an omphalocele, a condition in which organs grow outside the abdomen. They were already supporters of Children’s Miracle Network before their daughter was born, but after her death, the Johnsons, who were engaged in Costa Rica, became even more passionate about the cause.
No stranger to adventure – he and Mary once spent 34 months bicycling from above the Arctic Circle in Canada to Ushuaia, Argentina, the southernmost city in the world – Johnson is accompanied on this excursion by his 12-year-old daughter Holly. Having set out from SickKids on Nov. 3, together they’ll spend six weeks traveling from Canada to Costa Rica by motorcycle.
Making the trek with them is a RE/MAX flag – one that Johnson hopes all RE/MAX Affiliates who donate to the Alyssa Rae Johnson Fund are able to sign. To make that a reality, he’s stopping in RE/MAX offices from Canada to Central America, and has already visited several brokerages since departing just nine days ago.
“The reception they receive at RE/MAX offices has been phenomenal,” says Johnson’s wife Mary. “As parents, we are deeply grateful that our children have a chance to witness that you can indeed feel loved, supported and encouraged not just by your family, but also by your greater family – which, in our case, is RE/MAX Ontario-Atlantic and RE/MAX agents across the network.”
