For new and tenured agents alike, being part of a real estate team can be rewarding. Though each team operates differently, the general consensus is that teams offer a collaborative way to grow business with the support of peers and the direction of a leader.
Teams aligned with a supportive brand are able to concentrate on increasing productivity with the help of accessible resources. At RE/MAX brokerages, teams are known for thriving – and a recent survey proved just how productive RE/MAX teams really are.
Here are three quick reasons to consider joining a team:
1. Teams offer structure and support
In many cases, a real estate team offers a niche environment where motivated, like-minded agents can conduct more business within an efficient structure already known to consumers.
“My team is full of self-motivated people. They just want to work hard and be successful,” says Nathan Johnson, team leader of the Nathan Johnson team with RE/MAX Real Estate Group in Colorado Springs, Colorado. “We always have each other’s backs.”

Johnson leads an eight-person team, and over the past nine years he has identified leading reasons as to why agents choose to join.
“It really varies on the needs of the individual agent. There are some agents who join a team for the support and camaraderie, and can do their own business with the backing of a team that has good systems already in place,” Johnson says, adding that he also sees newer agents joining teams as a way to learn from others and build a strong business foundation.
A culture where team members support each other is one of the leading reasons agents choose to join – and stay – on his team.
“We meet altogether every other week, but we’re always in communication,” Johnson says. “Every day, we have group texts going back and forth with people asking questions and looking for advice.”
Johnson is set to attend The Ultimate RE/MAX Teams Event in 2022, an event that provides valuable insight and strategy to those looking to join a team, start a team, or grow a team.

2. Teams often have a culture of productivity
Many real estate professionals choose to join a team to be surrounded – and motivated – by full-time, high-producing agents.
Jessica Walters, a member of the Ritchie Realty Group team with RE/MAX Partners in Columbus, Ohio, has been in real estate for 13 years and with her team for eight. She explains that under the direction of team leader Lee Ritchie, the Ritchie Realty Group has evolved into an ideal team for motivated newer agents. They get the opportunity to boost their business alongside one another with the backing of the team name, which already has an established presence in the local market. They also get the RE/MAX brand.
Walters joined Ritchie Realty Group – now a medium-size team – in 2014 when she was ready to take her career to the next level. And today, she helps others develop their real estate careers, too.
“As we’ve gained new members, and especially members newer to the industry, I’ve taken on a mentorship role and helped them with training,” she says.

Walters appreciates her team having a dedicated text group, similar to Johnson’s, in which they share new ideas, ask questions, and find ways to collaborate.
“We’re not out here to just be the best individually, but to be the best as a team. We’re all striving to achieve our own goals, but we also support and cheer one another on,” she says.
“I don’t think you ever stop learning in real estate – and I love that about it,” Walters continues. “I’ve always said you’ll never have the exact same circumstances in a transaction twice. The profession keeps you on your toes.”
Despite functioning as its own entity, a real estate team still operates under a brokerage. Walters says the symbiotic relationship between her RE/MAX team and her RE/MAX brokerage is a huge benefit, with her brokerage having a close-knit culture and an approachable Broker/Owner.
3. Teams increase business opportunities
Joining a group of productive agents can be a good way to meet new clients, explore other facets of real estate, and – with support from one another – increase more closed transactions.
According to Johnson, working altogether as a team can make for a higher influx of incoming leads. This can prove especially helpful during fluctuations in the housing market.
“When the market turns down, many individual agents just don’t have a constant lead flow that those with a team do,” Johnson says.
