RE/MAX, LLC has received reports that scammers have been calling and emailing timeshare owners in the United States and Canada and offering to buy the owner’s timeshare. In some instances, the scam operative requests the owner’s contact information and emails a document to the owner with a supposed resale offer for the timeshare. The latest scam operation of this type has called itself “RE/MAX Plaza Tower,” claiming to be located in Chicago, Illinois. However, the operation could use variations of that name, a different name including “RE/MAX” or a different location. The “resale offer” and “exclusive sales contract” documents used in this scam have prominently featured the false company’s name, the RE/MAX logo and the RE/MAX hot air balloon logo. This scam has also used domain names and email addresses that include “remax” or “re-max,” as well as the names of actual RE/MAX officers, in an attempt to lend legitimacy to their operation. The domain names have been used to feature RE/MAX branded web sites in a further attempt to lure the timeshare owner into the scheme. This operation is not associated with the RE/MAX network or authorized by RE/MAX, LLC. If you have any questions about the legitimacy of an offer you have received, please call RE/MAX World Headquarters at (303) 770-5531. You can also email abuse@remax.net to report any suspicious emails, offers or web sites that feature the RE/MAX name, RE/MAX logo or RE/MAX hot air balloon logo.Unfortunately, the criminals behind scam and phishing schemes are skilled at recreating authentic-looking documents and websites. You may be contacted by a scammer posing as an agent on the phone or receive emails from a fraudulent email address. Once again, the best way to check if you have been approached by a scam operative is to contact RE/MAX World Headquarters at the information listed below.
