In some respects, RE/MAX global expansion began with Kim Lund.
In 1990, Lund opened an independent real estate office in the Cayman Islands. But the business didn’t grow, remaining a two-person operation for a long time. Looking for a competitive edge, Lund converted his office and made RE/MAX Cayman Islands the first RE/MAX franchise outside the U.S. and Canada.
That was 25 years ago. Now, the 16-Associate RE/MAX Cayman Islands is the No. 1 brokerage in the Caribbean Region in both sales volume and market share. In this silver anniversary year, it was fitting that Lund received the Distinguished Service Award, the network’s highest honor, at the 2017 R4 Convention in Las Vegas.

He was driven, determined and smart about using the RE/MAX brand name and competitive advantages,” says RE/MAX CEO, Chairman and Co-Founder Dave Liniger. “As entrepreneurs came to us and wanted to expand RE/MAX into countries all around the world, many of them looked at RE/MAX Cayman Islands as an example of what was possible. In that regard, Kim had a profound impact on countless people.”

Lund’s RE/MAX accomplishments are legendary. He was the No. 1 RE/MAX agent in the world for two straight years in the late 1990s and has been a fixture in the worldwide Top 10 for many years. In 2012, he was one of the first 12 superstars to earn the Luminary of Distinction Award for earning more than $20 million in commissions during a RE/MAX career of at least 20 years. Only 55 active Associates hold that honor today.
After losing his wife, Brenda, to breast cancer in 1998, Lund became active in the fight to end the disease. He is a founding member of the Cayman Islands Breast Cancer Foundation, and the annual Brenda Tibbetts Lund Walk/Run and Breast Cancer Gala Dinner has become one of the most anticipated and prestigious black (pink) tie events on the island. Each year the gala raises nearly $1 million to support breast cancer survivors and their families.
